Meet Emily Buckwalter, our Education Manager and Licensed Cosmetologist!

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I have always loved working with hair. I remember being a little girl and always modifying my dolls hair styles and color with the use of highlighter and markers and safety shears (much to the dismay of my mother). I am a big fan of music and really enjoy going to shows and supporting my husband in all of his musical endeavors. We have a son who is my greatest joy. Our favorite thing to do as a family is to go to Disneyland and the San Diego Safari Park.

What is your personal motto?

“If you’re not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you’re determined to learn, no one can stop you.” I don’t know if that is my personal motto but it is one that I love and strive to live by.

How long have you been working at Jon Renau?

In 2012 I joined the Jon Renau team as a customer service specialist. In 2013 I was given the opportunity to move into sales and became a Regional Account Manager for the southern territories. Education has always been a passion of mine and in 2015 when the position of Education Coordinator became available I jumped on the opportunity to join the Education Department.

What is your proudest moment at Jon Renau?

While I was a Regional Account Manager, my supervisor forwarded me an email from a man who was trying to help his fiancé with finding a wig for their wedding. Due to the health condition of his mother they needed to push up the date and he really wanted his bride to feel beautiful for her big day (even if it was not the original dream wedding she maybe had been picturing).

We helped them get in touch with a local shop and the bride-to-be was able to get her new hair in time for their wedding. A few weeks later I received an email with beautiful pictures from their amazing wedding with all of their family present, including his mother. And his wife looking stunning!

I love the partnerships that we create with everyone who carries our products and it is always something that I am proud of when we are able to help others in our community.

If Jon Renau was a person, who would it be?

A caring individual who is always looking to better herself and help those around her.

What do you like most about the company?

I love working for a company that cares. There are so many different departments that work together to bring great quality products that really make a difference in someone’s life. We care not only about those who wear our products but also about everyone who is involved in bringing a product to life and later to the end wearer.

What do you find the most challenging at Jon Renau?

Everyone has so much passion for what we do here that sometimes I take it all home with me, the good and the bad. Being in the alternative hair industry is really exciting but it can also be very emotional. It is heartbreaking when not every story has a happy ending. It is important to remember who is wearing out products and, although, it is great that we are providing them with an amazing product, is it as equally important to remember why they are wearing it.
