Real Women, Real Stories: Sayde

Tell us a little about yourself

I live on Vancouver Island - often considered "Canada's California". I love living life with my little family where the rainforest meets the ocean! My husband and I are wedding photographers, which means we get to spend every weekend working together and celebrating how much people love each other. It's been exciting, has allowed us to travel so many beautiful places, and always helps to remind us the important things in life. This year we welcomed our first child, and we're absolutely in love, and obsessed with her, and being parents!

How long have you been wearing wigs or hairpieces?

I started wearing wigs in 2015 when I developed Alopecia Universalis very rapidly. When I had first noticed my alopecia areata, I found two coin sized patches just above each ear. Within 3 months of that, I had lost 70% of my hair and started wearing wigs at that point.

What advice would you give to a new alternative hair wearer?

Be patient with yourself! I remember how overwhelming the start of my hair loss experience was. Not just the shedding itself, but also in the search for coping mechanisms, in finding ways to talk to my friends and family about it, looking for treatment options, and of course, looking for wigs. Take your time, find and talk to other people with hair loss - I was lucky to find many on Instagram and Youtube who share inspiring stories, do wig reviews, and are happy to answer questions to people just starting their hair loss journey. There is so much support out there if you reach out!

What do you love about our brand?

Jon Renau is far and above my favourite brand of wigs. I love the quality of the cap construction, comfort and the hair fibres. I have both human hair and synthetic (Blake and Julianne): both are superior quality and stunning! Before I bought a JR wig, I thought all wigs were itchy, uncomfortable, glossy, and obvious. I could only wear a wig for about 4 hours at a time before I got too hot, got a headache, or before feeling so self-conscious that I just couldn't bear to wear it. I bought my first JR wig, Blake, and my opinion on wig wearing changed completely! I could wear it for 16 hours a day, in a physical, up-close-to-people job and feel 100% confident in it. Not to mention all the compliments I get on how perfect my hair looks!
